Discerning a Religious Vocation

“All, according to their own gifts and duties must steadfastly advance
along the way of a living faith,
which arouses hope and works through love.”
- Lumen Gentium #40-41

A call:

To each person Jesus directs his call to follow him, to become like him. It is an invitation to leave all things to seek God and be united with Him. In Carmel, one's entire life is a prayerful quest for union with God through hearing God's word and living in His presence in imitation of the hidden life of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

As foundress, the Madre discovered that fewer nuns meant greater harmony and quiet. Her ideal remained that of a small group of good friends gathered in the Lord to live totally for Him through a contemplative life of prayer useful for His Church.
- Foundations, pg. (Trans. Fr. Kieran Kavanaugh)
